Hello dear readers, I have pulled finally
my old Command & Conquer games from the shelf, and when I'm so taken playing before me, me that Tesla coils are noticed. These large towers the huge lightning create out of nothing. I was wondering if it would be possible as recreating a device and I have something to do with the story of a Tesla coil (eng.: Tesla Coil) deals.

The Tesla transformer was named after its inventor and builder Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). He is a Transformer for generating high-frequency alternating currents with very high voltage. The goal of Tesla's, the construction of his transformer was to wireless transfer of energy, but appropriated by the Tesla coil is not.

But what, then, is a Tesla coil? How to be built?
is basically a Tesla coil from 2 mutually unconnected coil (primary coil and secondary coil). A capacitor provides the power necessary to charge the primary coil. The primary coil produced by the interaction with the secondary coil a voltage. This tension reached such a high level that it discharges in air. This creates the striking flashes of light.
The Tesla coil is strictly speaking not seen a real transformer, because it has some features which distinguish it from such. These would be as follows:

  • the energy is transferred by this resonance



For building a Tesla coil will need the following materials:

  • a high-capacity transformer with about 100 to 5000W and a Output voltage of about 4 to 20 kV (4,000 to 20,000 volts;)). A television transformer would have to be this way.

  • the primary capacitor. This should have 1 to 100 nF at a voltage strength of 8 to 40 kV. Such capacitors can be found on the mainstream market, but barely so, just a few normal capacitors in series to achieve the required dielectric strength.

  • coils: the primary coil with the flat coil is placed around the secondary coil and is only loosely coupled. The secondary coil is located inside the primary coil and is rotated at about 500 to 2000 turns. As a bobbin, an old drainage pipe with 5 to 30 cm diameter are used.

  • the torus. He sits on top of the secondary coil and flush closes the circuit to ground (the air or ceiling).


For the secondary resonant circuit, we do not need a capacitor, since the coil with high number of turns of your own to add a good power storage.

now feel if someone thought to want to assemble yourself a Tesla coil, I would like to point out that this transformer generates a VERY HIGH voltage and you should be very careful in handling.
