Hello dear readers,
yesterday, I received the message that has enjoyed in Australia, an F-111, a belly landing. It was reported that after the start of the machine simply flew off the wheels.
Since that moment was imposed on all F-111 of the Australian Air Force ground an aircraft for the cause to get to the bottom. Posted by Geoffrey Shepherd, head of the Australian Air Force: "This is us in 34 years, since that is the F-111 in use, never happened."
The machine was flown by a pilot who was allowed only for 2 weeks to fly these aircraft. The pilot circled
few hours on the airport, so he spent much of his fuel. From the ground crew steel cables were laid on the runway (such as on aircraft carriers) in order to slow the Jet landed as quickly as possible. When the fuel reserves as well as at the end were he used the machine without landing gear on the runway. Pilot and copilot are unhurt.
The F-111 is a plane out of American manufacturing. Developed it was from General Dynamic in the early 1960s. A total of 1963 24 F-111 delivered to the Australian Army at the tactical bomber then replaced.
The F-111 was built in 8 different versions:
- F-111 A: The first row, which on 18 July 1967, the 428th, 429, and 430 Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 474th Tactical Fighter Wing at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico was put into operation. In order to test the F-111 in combat, six units were sent to Vietnam. 3 aircraft were lost, but not by enemy action but by technical failure. So even then the pilot bit insecure;).
- F-111 B: This version should be the Navy version. Since General Dynamics had no experience in dealing with aircraft Trägergestützen they entered into a cooperation with Grumman. The F-111 was for use on an aircraft carrier seriously overweight, underpowered, and it lacked range, sodas, the program was canceled 1968th
- F-111 C: This is the export version for Australia. The F-111 Type C is intermediate between the A and B version. Officially the aircraft should be delivered in 1968, but were delayed as stated on the aircraft structural integrity problems that 1973rd
- F-111 D: She was a new, improved F-111, with new avionics, more powerful engines, a new air inlet geometry and a glass cockpit. Since the new systems were preparing to start a lot of problems, delays in the in-service position until 1974.
- F-111 E: She was a simplified F-111 D, which was built after no end of children's diseases of the D-type was in sight. She had the same engines and air intakes like the D model but not trouble-prone electronics.
The F-111 E also participated in Operation Dessert Storm "part. - F-111 F: produced the last model was the F-111. It received new engines and an improved avionics, which was a lot Reliable than that of D-type.
The internal weapons bay of the aircraft was equipped with a standard as all AVQ-26 Pave Tack system with FLIR and laser Zielbezeichner. This allowed the F-111 laser-guided precision weapons use.
The F-111 F took and Operation El Dorado Canyon against Libya, and in part in Operation "Desert Storm" against Iraq. - FB-111: a strategic bomber version was the F-111. From
F-111 A, they differed in that it was longer by 65 cm and larger had wings (which were also on the F-111B used). The electronics of the
FB-111 had been up to date and the load increased which was an increase of the base are necessary.
The armament consisted of the AGM-69A SRAM with a nuclear warhead, could be transported with 2 in the internal weapons bay and 2 and the inner wing pylons. Furthermore, conventional bombs could (24x340Kg) or free-falling nuclear weapons are used. - EF-111 A Raven: She was the model for electronic warfare.
1974 Grumman received the contract to the existing F-111 fuselage for the new task to adapt. The electronics of the AN/ALQ-99E-Störsender-Subsystems was instaled in the weapons bay, the radio is found in a 5cm-long spike in the trunk space, and the recipients were mounted in a tank on the tailfin.
The cockpit of the Raven has been completely redesigned so that it has now equipped all flight and navigation systems to the pilot's side emigrated and the co-pilot seat with the tax systems of the new devices.

Oh man, now I'm somehow a lot more written I wanted to;)). Well yes
makes nothing, I hope you all had fun with this little art-hour. A video of the crash follows as soon as I found one.
So, a nice evening and see you next time,
